Google Summer of Code

Lab Livre in GSOC 2026: Our experience can be seen here

What is it?

Google Summer of Code

Google Summer of Code is a worldwide online program aimed at attracting new contributors to open-source software development. Participants are matched with mentors from open-source organizations, gain insights into real-world development practices, learn from seasoned developers, and receive a small stipend.

Participating in GSoC allowed us to connect with students globally. This was more than just a technical exchange; it was also a social and cultural opportunity that broadened the professional horizons of both mentors and participants. We learned a great deal from this experience and look forward to participating again.

Lab Livre

Lab Livre is a women-led FOSS lab based at the University of Brasília. Our mission is to increase engagement among young South Americans and underrepresented groups in high-impact open source, overcoming barriers such as language and impostor syndrome. We have established several OSS local communities with AI-driven solutions for social good, including: Empurrando Juntas (a social participation app), GovHub (a federal data transparency platform), ThinkAds (fake news detection), and a Portuguese-trained chatbot architecture.

GovHub

GovHub is an open-source software platform developed to transform raw data into strategic information, supporting public managers in making data-driven decisions.

The project adopts a technology stack based on open-source solutions, including Apache Airflow for data pipeline orchestration, DBT for information transformation and modeling, Apache Superset for visualization and exploration, PostgreSQL as a relational database, and Docker for containerization and deployment. The choice of these technologies allows for greater flexibility, scalability, and integration with different government systems.
